P orsche can keep the NA flat 6.

But I would call my local dealer and get on a list today if they put the 9a2b6 in the 718. The little turbo 6 is amazing and I need one in my life.

I bet that motor would be a lot of fun in a 718. Plus they still sound good, unlike the flat four turbo motors.

oh my... they really went ahead and put the 4.0 NA motor in that?  That right there could be the best Porsche of the decade.

It would be incredible. I actually don't hate the way the four sounds

They won’t mark it up, Porsche won’t let them.

Instead you’ll see used ones for sale at 110% to 200% of the msrp. Which is honestly worse as far as I’m concerned.

This is my only issue with Porsche. I really don’t lik e that they create artificial supply shortages. There is little about this GT4 that would justify producing less than demand. Most e verything is off the shelf but they don’t care.

I tried to get on the list for a GT4 and was told not to waste my time. Everyone who was put in front of me had purchased turbos, GT3's and GT2's, and even a Carrera GT and a 918.

Prices are starting to come down on used ones though and this news will only mean even more drops.

At the end of the day, it’s a 718 with an old 9a1 with a bump in displacement. That is an awesome mix, but I don’t see any reason to limit production.

Maybe I gotta hear another one in person but they just lacked the soul of the six cylinder sound. Great motor otherwise.

It’s gotta be legit. I hope the gearing is shorter than the last GT4.

They did, but kinda just took the turbos off the 911 engine and bored it a bit.

Just about the purest road car on the market at this point.

Not over-powered overkill.

Not nostalgic for the glory days of 50 years ago.

Not under-powered or under delivered

properly rear driven and weight biased, with a short, direct drivetrain

very low and very centralized center of gravity and center of mass.

inherently balanced, even firing, abundantly powerful, yet entirely useable flat-6 engine with instant lag-free, free-breathing throttle response.

Enough chassis, body, and interior to be a fully featured road car, not skeletal and stark, but not overly laden with luxuries and excess weight.

Oh, and it looks fantastic, too.

It’s not truly limited, is it? Just limited by production capacity, is my understanding. Plenty of Gen 1 GT4s available secondhand.

It’s not the GT3 motor; it’s based on the old 3.8.

Cheapest one on Autotrader is $85k (I’ve seen one listed for $80k prior). Still has a ways to go to get anywhere near my ballpark...

GT cars just don’t depreciate!

They limit production and choose to not allot more production capacity.

Then they limit the allotment to dealers.

Kinja'd!!!1

Would be interesting to know how many more they could sell if they gave as much production capacity as possible to the GT4.

Their margin probably isn’t as high on a GT4 as it is on a highly optioned 911 or Cayman/Boxster, so they’re not that motivated to do so.

Think used GT4s will hold value as much as used GT3s?

Hope not!

Kinja'd!!! Discerning > davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com

I doubt it. The GT3 has the 911 factor going for it. Even a base 911, particularly the 997.2 and 991, hold their value better than the other models. The GT3 has to o much of a following I think and Porsche seriously limits their numbers.

I don’t know how many they would have sold, but I was number 30 something at the biggest Porsche dealer in Atlanta and they were only being allotted 2 cars of the initial run.

Total US allotment was somewhere around 1200 for the GT4, though Porsche won’t say exactly. That screams intentional limited run to me. Particularly because they describe the allotment and production as confidential. Lol.

The GT3 is produced in even lower numbers - despite demand. The numbers are on the wiki page but, for example, Porsche only made 2,378 997.1 GT3 models world wide during a four year time span. Which is also why they hold value so well.

And now the GT3 doesn’t even use a Mezger and all the parts on a GT3 can bolt on to a base Carrera.

But numbers have picked up. The 991 sold almost 6500 units.

Some day I'll have one hopefully

Yes... looking forward to having a 991.2 manual when prices drop because everyone who can actually drive one is dead. Ha!

Or a 997 GT3, or a gen 1 GT4. Owning one of these 3 one day would be a dream.

Kinja'd!!! Discerning > davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com

My realistic list for the next few years is a 991.2 or maybe a GT4.

In the next year I may get a 991.1 if they come down, or a 718 S. The exhaust isn’t too bad in person with the right mods and they are so much fun to drive.

But for some reason my heart always goes back to the 911. I’m not sure what Porsche managed to do, but every time I watch a race or go to Daytona or Road Atlanta, I find myself looking at the used market for everything from 964's to 991's.

Latest trigger was obviously le mans. Didn't help that 99% of their GTE PRO footage was of the RSR's

That’s awesome. I think I’m just going to stick with my M3 family truckster for the next few years, but once my oldest is driving and shuttling his siblings, all bets are off.

Race on Sunday, sell on Monday! =)

The 991s really do look great. My boss has a 4S Cab in Chalk.

I’ m stuck in a new overpriced truck for now. Well, not overpriced but more than I’d pay for anything that isn’t a sports car.

A couple coworkers have 991's and it makes me a bit envious. One is orange and the other black. They're both gorgeous

It’s actually owned by a middle aged woman who also owns a C7Z. She tracks both cars from what I understand. Didn’t get to ask her if she goes to Road Atlanta or AMP or both.

Not kidding
